Annual Report 2025 – The Solutions Are Here

2025 was a contradictory year for climate policy: while emissions continue to rise and political setbacks are looming, renewable energies have definitively established themselves worldwide as the economically superior solution. It is precisely within this field of tension that the Energy Watch Group provided key impulses.

The main focuses of our work in 2025 include:

1.5 °C Permanently Exceeded:
Based on conservative IPCC criteria, we were the first organization to demonstrate that the 1.5-degree limit has already been permanently exceeded – and that, under a “business as usual” scenario, 2.0 °C will be reached as early as 2032. This leads to clear political consequences: the remaining CO₂ budget is effectively exhausted, and new fossil investments are neither responsible nor economically viable.

Profitable Roadmaps to Climate Neutrality:
Our national roadmap for Germany shows that a transition to 100% renewable energy is already economically profitable today, socially balanced, and budget-neutral – resulting in annual savings of around €100 billion for citizens and businesses.
In addition, we developed municipal roadmaps for the first time, demonstrating how cities and municipal utilities can implement the transformation in a concrete and profitable way.

New Answers to the Climate Reality:
In view of unavoidable further warming, we clearly addressed CO₂ removal as a third pillar of climate action and introduced the concept of Ocean Farming as an internationally discussed solution approach.

Political and International Impact:
In 2025, our analyses and positions were taken up by the media, political bodies, and international expert forums – from Germany to Lithuania, to China, and to IRENA.

This work thrives on exchange with experts, partner organizations, and political stakeholders. Many of the impulses achieved would not have been possible without this network.

A comprehensive overview of our analyses, activities, and impact can be found in our Annual Report 2025 (in German).

Outlook for 2026:
In light of increasing efforts to politically slow down the expansion of renewable energies, we will engage even more strongly with clear economic arguments, fact-based communication, and concrete implementation strategies – both nationally and internationally. Our goal remains to empower decision-makers not to delay the transformation, but to implement it effectively.

We rely on your continued support and would be grateful for your donation in 2026 as well.

The Energy Watch Group team wishes you and your loved ones peaceful holidays and a successful year 2026!
